Google to rank mobile-friendly websites higher in search results
Posted on March 27, 2015You may have already noticed Google highlighting ‘mobile-friendly’ sites in search results. Well this is about to be taken a step further. From 21st April, the company will be increasing search rankings of sites that are mobile-friendly.
The internet giant say they plan to expand use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal and that these changes will have a “significant impact” in search results. As a result, mobile users will be presented with more relevant search results that are optimised for their devices. These changes should also encourage businesses to make sure their site is mobile-friendly if they haven’t already done so.
Additionally, Google will also begin to use information from indexed apps as a ranking factor for users who have the app installed and are signed in.
Site administrators can check the mobile compatibility of their websites by using Google’s Mobile-Friendly Test tool.
